You are invited: Register for the PKP Warsaw Sprint 2026

Organized in collaboration with the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IBL PAN), Open scholarly communication in the European Research Area for Social Sciences and Humanities – Polish National Node (OPERAS-PL), and the National Information Processing Institute – National Research Institute (OPI PIB), the upcoming in-person PKP Sprint will take place on May 18 and 19, 2026, in Warsaw, Poland.
The Public Knowledge Project (PKP) fosters consistent engagement and collaboration with its community. During PKP sprints, community members have a direct impact on the development of PKP software. Theses sprints are short, collaborative events where developers, librarians, publishers, and researchers come together to improve PKP’s open-source publishing platforms (i.e., Open Journal Systems [OJS], Open Monograph Press [OMP], and Open Preprint Systems [OPS]).
Beyond accelerating technical development through tasks like fixing bugs, building plugins, and improving documentation, these sprints foster community and shared ownership of open scholarly infrastructure. They provide an inclusive space where both technical and non-technical contributors can collaborate, exchange knowledge, and learn new skills while addressing real publishing challenges.
Ultimately, PKP sprints help strengthen the sustainability of community-governed tools that support open access publishing around the world. These interactive events provide a platform for brainstorming critical tasks, setting priorities, and collaborating on improvements to PKP software.
Participants usually collaborate on small-size projects that have teamwork potential and include a mix of both technical and non-technical tasks. Past events have focused on building plugins, documentation, conducting usability tests, and exploring new features, among other topics.
This PKP sprint is open to:
- Programmers
- Journal managers
- Librarians

- And other individuals involved in publishing
- You do not have to be an expert in technical aspects to join!
