Plug It In: Connecting OJS to Scholarly Infrastructure
This session introduces the key settings, workflows, and metadata practices that help journals connect OJS to the wider scholarly communications ecosystem. Participants will learn where metadata is entered and managed in OJS, how to configure policies and settings that support indexing services such as DOAJ, and how to use built-in features and plugins to connect with services like Crossref. The session will also highlight the importance of maintaining these connections through regular platform upgrades and good metadata stewardship.
Audience Learning Outcomes
- Understand that OJS is designed to connect to many outside systems (especially indexers like DOAJ and digital infrastructure providers like Crossref) and the importance of taking advantage of these systems
- Understand how and where metadata is entered into OJS, and the importance of best metadata practices
- Understand how and where to configure important policies and relevant settings for indexers like DOAJ
- Understand which plugins/core features can be used to connect to services like Crossref
- Understand the importance of upgrading to maintain interoperability connections
