Introducing PKP’s Code of Conduct
Preamble
The PKP Equity and Inclusion team has developed a new Code of Conduct to provide guidance and expectations for behaviour for the entire PKP community. PKP’s Code of Conduct was written to ensure a safe and positive experience for all and it applies to all of our internal and external communities.
Public Knowledge Project’s work is guided by a commitment to quality, openness, participation, and inclusiveness. As such, the Code of Conduct helps all those who participate in our community to create spaces where all people feel they can safely participate, introduce new ideas, and inspire others.
Keeping our Community Inclusive and Open
All members of the PKP community are asked to honour this Code not only when working for the Public Knowledge Project but everywhere PKP’s community operates, including when using internal communication tools, GitHub repositories, and participating in community events.
The code builds on existing codes PKP has used for the Community Forum and community events. It has been rewritten to unify these codes and adopt further guidance based on other community codes we admire. Throughout, our intention is to encourage the kind of positive interactions required to support a diverse, global community — not merely to describe and sanction unwanted behaviour. It also provides clear guidelines for how to handle inappropriate behaviour and support for reporting incidents anonymously. Internal procedures have been written to ensure reports are addressed in a thorough and timely manner.
Further work will be shared in the upcoming months. We value your input and look forward to engaging conversations.
Contact PKP if you have questions about or feedback on the Code of Conduct.
