“Classic” Theme Released for OJS 3.1.1-1+
We are very pleased to announce the release of the new “Classic” theme, freely available to the OJS community. You can view the online demo and install it today from your plugin gallery if you are running OJS version 3.1.1-1 or later.
This theme, created by designer Sophy O and built by developer Vitaliy Bezsheiko, should bring to mind classics, and, in general, scholarship. It uses a serif typeface (Cardo) designed for “classicists, biblical scholars, medievalists, and linguists”, and inspired by the work of Renaissance printer Aldus Manutius.
Classic features a block-based layout for an issue’s table of contents, which makes great use of larger screens. But it also collapses into a clean, accessible view for smaller screens.
The theme comes with an arresting yellow as the default primary colour to bring energy to a traditional style, but you can choose whatever color fits your brand.
You can see how the Canadian Journal of Higher Education has used their own colors when implementing the Classic theme for their journal.
We have provided some guidance in making the most of the theme, including recommended image sizes and formats.
This theme follows the earlier release of the Health Science theme, and we have more on the way. Our goal is to provide a variety of distinct, easy-to-implement themes that best match your needs and demonstrate how attractive OJS can be!
If you decide to implement this theme for your journal, please drop us a note in the comments below. We’d love to see it in action!
