OJS 3.0 Documentation Draft: Reviewing

July 18th, 2016 by  | 7 Comments

This is the third in a series of blog posts (the first is here, second here) that introduce draft sections of the new OJS 3 documentation, in preparation for the upcoming release.

This time, we’re looking at the review process. Because reviewers, like authors, are often new to the system, we need to make this as easy as we can for them. This document outlines the multiple stages of the review process, including the editor assigning reviewers, reviewers doing the review, authors responding to requested revisions, and editors accepting revisions and moving on to copyediting.

We’re not only interested in your feedback on the documentation, but also on the design decisions we’ve made for the new versions of the software. You can use the comment feature below, or use the comments within the document itself.

To better view the screenshots, increase the zoom on the Google doc up to 150 or 200%.

I followed the steps indicated and everything worked perfectly well until the assignmet of the reviewers. Although, I’m unable to access their decisions, because they aren’t shown in my editor’s Tasks area. They have submitted their reccomendations and uploaded their review files, but I can’t seem to find them on the editor’s profile, and consequently can’t proceed to copyediting the issue because I can’t see which articles were accepted and which were not.

How can I get to know what were the reccomendations of my reviwers?

Thank you in advance for your help.

If you are logged in as an editor, you can see the reviewers’ recommendations in the Reviewer panel (see the first image on page 14, where Gerrit has recommended “Revisions Required”). Once all reviews are in, the editor can make the final decision, including Send to Copyediting (which is an acceptance).

      • Celso says:

Even though I followed the steps indicated in the document, Only the name of the Revisors are shown in the frame. The text “Review Confirmed” and the link “Read Review” do not show.

When the revisor responds, the option “unassign reviewer” disappears, but the review itself seems to be hidden.

Can you help me access at least their recommendations?

Thank you again for the attention.

Will the system continue not to support a delegation of the decision, i.e., the managing editor sends a decision request to the Editor-in-Chief?

    • Kevin says:

Yes, the section editor can delegate the final decision to the main editor. OJS 3 will have more flexibility in creating new roles and assigning permissions. We’ll blog about this soon.
