Journal of Digital Social Research

The homepage of this journal shows how any copy such as the title of a special issue can be overlaid across the entire screen with any image full-screen in the background, and call to action button can be utilized.
This image shows that the archive is laid out in a 4 by 3 grid pattern of issue covers with their titles underneath.
This issue snapshot shows how the layout can include the logo, the issue title, and the volume information in whatever typeset desired, with the issue cover on the left and the issue description on the right, and a call to action button on the bottom (i.e., "read full issue") with a break, then a list of the articles on the special issue.

The Journal of Digital Social Research is published in association with DIGSUM, the Centre for Digital Social Research at Umeå University, Sweden. It an independent, interdisciplinary, open access journal that uses Open Journal Systems to publish high-quality articles within all areas of digital social research, including sociology, informatics, pedagogy, education science, gender studies, law, economy, social work and geography.

They use a continuous-publishing model where articles are published online as soon as they have been approved for publication. Articles are later collected into volumes and issues for easier referencing.

The journal has adapted one of our freely available OJS themes (Immersion) to suit the strong, clean lines of their visual identity. The result is a distinctive, highly readable journal website.

The paper preview shows how a reverse theme can be used to have white text over black background. The preview is formatted with the black side on the left housing the typeset looking paper, and the white side on the right housing an alternative view of the paper, the keywords, how to cite, and other information.
A view of what the typeset article looks like, without having to download the article and then open it again. One can access the entire article in the browser.
