American Medical Writers Association

The American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) uses OJS to handle the editorial and production requirements of AMWA Journal. From Shari Rager, Deputy Director:

In support of the mission of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) and to advance the broader profession, the AMWA Journal publishes content that reflects the interests, concerns, and expertise of medical communicators. Its purpose is to inform, inspire, and motivate medical communicators.

AMWA represents more than 4,500 members in the US, Canada, and 30 other countries who are committed to accurately and ethically making information about health and medicine clear and meaningful.

After transitioning to the OJS site in 2021, the Journal team has been more efficient with both our editorial and production processes. We are now able to spend more time building relationships with our authors, peer-reviewers, and other partners, and can spend more time on strategic work of the publication. We are also updating our Journal operations manual to codify current standards operating procedures based on our use of the OJS platform.

The American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) had two distinct needs to improve production and publication processes for the AMWA Journal, our quarterly peer-reviewed journal.  First, we wanted an online submission and editorial management tool and second, we wanted a robust online platform. We selected OJS as our partner as it was able to meet both of those needs in the most effective manner possible. As a professional society, our Journal maintains a subscription model for members-only access, and we were able to make this possible on the OJS platform due to its comprehensive plug-ins and tools.

I would recommend OJS for other publishers, including associations and nonprofits, looking for a cost-effective and comprehensive journal management system. It will require some time and effort to build out the site to meet your unique vision and goals, but the OJS customer service team is responsive and helpful to help you meet your goals.
