I. Purpose
The Education Committee is charged with providing public-facing educational opportunities for the community that advance the Public Knowledge Projects’ mission– improving the quality, access, and bibliodiversity of scholarly communication toward a global public good. The Education Committee coordinates the strategic direction as well as the creation, maintenance, and improvement of quality educational opportunities and resources on (1) scholarly publishing, including on ethics, approaches, and trends and (2) the practical implementation and use of PKP’s platforms. In addition to coordinating projects and events, the Education Committee provides recommendations and guidance to PKP staff who participate in education-related activities.
II. Objectives
- Enhance PKP’s educational materials including the PKP School, Documentation Hub, and Community Forum;
- Develop new educational resources and opportunities;
- Organize, license, and make educational resources available;
- Facilitate external requests for webinars, workshops, and speaker series;
- Coordinate community-facing events, workshops, speaker series, and Open Access Week;
- Collaborate with various teams–Development, Publishing Service, Coalition Publica, Communications– to advocate for education needs, prevent duplication of efforts, foster the sharing of knowledge and resources, and cultivate a cohesive approach to creating and disseminating educational opportunities;
- Collaborate on student project proposals;
- Liaise with the Translation Coordinator to facilitate translations of educational materials and educational opportunities in multiple languages.
III. Deliverables
The Community Team will submit reports to the Members Committee on a quarterly basis.

Membership is open to all PKP staff and community members keen to develop PKP’s educational resources.

V. Terms
Staff members have specific areas of responsibility that are ongoing. Roles filled by community members are two-year appointments with the option to renew.
VI. Meeting Practices
- Regular virtual meetings will be held once a month.
- A call for collaboratively created meeting agendas will be put out by the PKP EIG Liaison one week prior to the next scheduled meeting.
- Meeting minutes will be taken by members on a rotating schedule with an emphasis on recording action items.
- Ongoing communication will take place on the Education Interest Group’s Mattermost Channel.
