SFU Community Advisory Committee

Terms of Reference

Mandate

The SFU Community Advisory Committee (SFUCAC) will jointly establish and oversee the PKP UCF (University Core Facility)’s engagement, advocacy, and support efforts within the SFU Community, to advise on best practices, and to provide a means for the SFU community to provide input to and oversight of the UCF. This may include, but will not be limited to: publishing and open access advocacy activities; persistent identifier (PID) practices; PKP Preservation Network technical and policy obligations; and so on. The PKP UCF will also provide its expertise to relevant issues as they arise at SFU.

  • Library/PKP: Community Engagement & Outreach Librarian [Urooj Nizami]
  • Library: Research Commons Librarian [Nicole White]
  • Faculty: Director of Publishing Program [John Maxwell]
  • Faculty: At large [Michelle Pidgeon]
  • Student: at large undergraduate [Devin Bates]
  • Student: at large graduate [Jarin Pintana]

Term

At large positions will be for renewable 1 year terms.

Chair

  • Elected by the members
  • 2 year, renewable term
  • Represent SFUCAC matters on the PKP Advisory Committee

PKP Technical Committee

  • 2 SFUCAC members, or SFU designates, will be selected to serve on the PKP Technical Committee
  • Nominated by PKP Operations Director; Appointed by VPRI Executive Director, Research Operations
  • 2 year, renewable term

Meetings

  • 3x / year, scheduled in advance for the calendar year
  • Additional meetings can be scheduled as needed

Quorum

  • 50% of non ex-officio members.

Decision-Making

  • Committee members will seek to reach consensus wherever possible. If a vote is required, a majority of votes will prevail. 
  • The Chair does not vote, but has the authority to break ties.
