Presentations Session 1 (8:55 – 9:40 AM PDT)
Open Books – a Danish national OMP platform adapted for institutional needs
Presenters: Jesper Boserup Thestrup and Katarina Smitt Engberg (Royal Danish Library)
In October 2025, The Royal Danish Library launched a national Diamond Open Access publishing platform called Open Books. The platform allows Danish research institutions to publish and showcase professional and scholarly book publications such as monographs, edited volumes, PhD theses, and reports. Currently, it hosts two Danish universities, and we expect to add at least three institutions in 2026. The platform tries to balance a centralized service and homepage design with local academic and institutional requirements. In our presentation, we will describe how this affects the design of the platform, our service and policies, as well as the roles and responsibilities of the institutions using the platform. We will also shed light on the process of developing the platform and how we collected and integrated inputs from different types of institutions in the development phase.
Pride and troubles: Designing and operating University of Banja Luka University Press (BLUPress)
Presenters: Vladimir Stupar and Miroslav Galić (University of Banja Luka)
We would like to present BLUPress – Banja Luka University Press, for which we are using PKP OMP (3.4.0-9) platform for publishing monographs of our University. We will present our publishing platform (which is still in its infancy), but also all the troubles we encountered while making it. Some of those troubles include: support for multiscript languages (Serbian Cyrillic and Latin script), lack of DOI automation deposit to Crossref, lack of multilingual Crossref XML deposit, and lack of affiliations of authors in XML export.
BOP Books’ bibliodiversity
Presenter: Elio Pellin (University Library of Bern)
At Bern Open Publishing (BOP), the University Library of Bern’s publication platform, we believe in bibliodiversity. We expanded our publishing services to include “BOP Books” on OMP, so our researchers can publish long-form formats that meet their needs and the requirements of the subject matter. Publications on BOP Books range from easy-to-produce editions to complex scientific long-form formats with integrated viewers for high-resolution images. For the latter, the University Library of Bern, in collaboration with the University Library of Basel, developed an IIIF viewer for OJS and OMP. For monographs and edited volumes, we licensed SciFlow, which allows authors and editors to create HTML, XML, and PDF files in a single step. We include a print-on-demand option for our books with a provider that handles printing, distribution, and invoicing. BOP participates in DOACH (Diamond Open Access CH), Switzerland’s National Capacity Center (NCC) which in turn is part of the European Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH). The goal of BOP and DOACH is to promote and support Diamond OA books in addition to Diamond Journals.
Lepidus Lightning Talks (9:40 – 9:55 AM)
Petrobras University Publications Portal: integration between OJS and OMP publications
Presenter: Pablo Valério Polônia (Lepidus Tecnologia)
Petrobras is a Brazilian company operating in the energy sector. Its Publications Portal presents, in an integrated manner, articles published in the institution’s two journals, the Boletim Geociências da Petrobras (BGP) and Revista Técnica da Universidade Petrobras (RTUP), as well as books published by the Programa de Editoração de Livros Didáticos (PELD). We will present the portal and the technical details that enabled the integration between these publications, which are published on different platforms (OJS and OMP).
References for Chapters Plugin
Presenter: Jhonathan Miranda (Lepidus Tecnologia)
The References for Chapters is a OMP plugin which adds a long-requested feature for the application: the adding of references for books chapters. In this short presentation, we aim to share this plugin with the community by showing its features and how to integrate it with community OMP installations.
Sentimento da Dialética
Presenter: Yves César (Lepidus Tecnologia)
The Sentimento da Dialética collection is a space for engaging with the work of philosophers Otília and Paulo Arantes, reaffirming the collective dimension of their intellectual production. This material, edited and compiled into free digital books, videos, and other documents, is made openly available through OMP. In the technical project, a theme was developed with color-based category styling, along with a quick submission plugin and support for embedded videos. The same project was used to test the first versions of the Bibi EPUB viewer plugin, now available in the OMP gallery, although it still has limitations due to its reliance on a legacy library, which may hinder future updates.
Presentations Session 2 (10 – 10:45 AM)
Open access textbooks: A main goal for Milano University Press
Presenters: Umberto Vitali, Simona Bonariva and Simona Albani (University of Milan)
Since the vocation of a public university is to serve its community and return the investment and funding provided by citizens, the University of Milan has chosen to publish open‑access books and journals as a way to fulfill its mission: educating students, supporting researchers, and promoting the dissemination of scientific knowledge. In particular, the publication of open‑access textbooks through the Diamond Open Access Milano University Press enables the University to offer concrete support to its students, safeguarding their right to education. These open‑access textbooks, published with OMP / PKP in accordance with international standards, can be adapted to both teaching and learning needs. They are accessible without user profiling and free from the usage restrictions commonly imposed by commercial platforms.
Edition.fi – supporting small publishers through a shared OMP based platform
Presenter: Antti-Jussi Nygård (The Federation of Finnish Learned Societies)
Edition.fi is a Finnish open access publishing platform built on Open Monograph Press, with a particular focus on supporting small publishers, such as learned societies and non-commercial scholarly presses. Maintained by the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies (TSV), Edition.fi enables publishers with limited resources to publish high-quality scholarly books without needing to operate or maintain their own publishing systems. By emphasising high-quality metadata, persistent identifiers and open access distribution, Edition.fi improves the visibility and sustainability of scholarly book publishing in a small-language context. The platform complements the existing journal publishing service Journal.fi and demonstrates how OMP can be used to support small publishers through collaboration, shared governance, and open-source infrastructure. This presentation will share practical experiences from operating Edition.fi, including platform design choices, OMP adaptations, and lessons learned in using OMP to support diverse publishing needs.
Supporting publishers and initiatives to improve visibility and dissemination of their OMP titles, via the OMP-Thoth integration plugin for OMP
Presenters: Thiago Brasil (Lepidus Tecnologia), Toby Steiner (Thoth Open Metadata) and Wikus van Zyl (University of Johannesburg Press)
Thoth is a freely-available non-profit, open source metadata management and dissemination platform, made for Open Access metadata for books and chapters. During the session, we will present the integration plugin between Thoth and OMP, for communication and synchronization of book data between the two platforms, followed by a showcase of how UJ Press has been using the OMP-Thoth plugin to improve metadata of their titles and implemented dissemination to a variety of platforms via Thoth’s dissemination services.
OMP Documentation updates (10:45 – 10:50 AM)
Presenter: Emma Uhl (PKP)
PKP has recently revamped and updated OMP documentation for version 3.5. Learn about the changes to this resource to prepare yourself and your teams for future upgrades to 3.5!
