The recording of the Coalition Publica Panel, “All Together Now: Toward Partnerships for Open Access”, is now available. Read in French
On April 23rd, 2024, Coalition Publica hosted a panel with stakeholders advocating for the collaboration of publishers, infrastructures, and institutions to support open access (OA) publishing. These participants discussed their pursuit of OA partnerships, recognizing that funding each component in isolation is an inadequate solution to current challenges. As such, panelists shared their efforts to establish collective funding approaches.
The panel was moderated by Jessica Clark, Senior Coordinator for Open Access Development of Érudit and Coalition Publica. The panelists were Sophie Fotiadi, Coordinator of the Mir@bel network, Richard Hayman, Associate Professor & Digital Initiatives Librarian at Mount Royal University, Sharla Lair Senior Strategist, Open Access & Scholarly Communication Initiatives, at Lyrasis, and Jean-François Lutz, Head of Research Support Services, at the Université de Lorraine.
By way of introduction, Jessica demonstrated the importance of open access partnerships in the Canadian context, giving the example of the Partnership for Open Access, one of Érudit and Coalition Publica’s flagship initiatives. [15:06]
Further, the goal of the panel was to go beyond a Canadian Context and discuss varieties of contexts.
Questions asked to panelists:
→ Who are the partners in your context working together for OA? [20:46]
→ Does working in partnership for OA include or exclude, by default, any behaviours or activities? Which ones, and why? [33:03]
→ How does language influence partnerships? What is your experience of working with other partners within the Francophonie, or with partners in non-French speaking regions? Do partnership dynamics change in these contexts, or do they present particular opportunities? [39:03]
→ What are some practical advantages of working in partnership for OA? [45:00]
→ How do researchers perceive different models of OA? [51:26]
