PKP Preservation Network Plugin now Supports OJS 3.5 Long-term Support

In this issue of Archipelago’s segment, Development Dispatch, Magnus Lu shares news about the PKP PN’s new functionality with OJS 3.5 LTS, and what changed.
The PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) provides journals using Open Journal Systems (OJS) with a long-term way to preserve published content. This free preservation service is a safeguard against content loss if a journal’s website or server becomes unavailable. It also allows smaller journals to access a digital preservation infrastructure that might otherwise be difficult or costly to maintain. This update ensures that journals using OJS 3.5 can continue to use the service.
What Changed?
The PKP PN plugin was updated to work with the architectural changes introduced in OJS 3.5. The most significant change was replacing the plugin’s automated task scheduler. The automated task scheduler checks for new or updated content, then packages and sends the data to the Preservation Network. This mechanism was recently updated to use the new Laravel-based scheduler in OJS 3.5 (GitHub #9678)
Other updates include changes to deprecated OJS functions, locale naming changes, MariaDB compatibility, and more. See the PKP PN release notes for the complete list of changes.
The PKP PN plugin is available in the OJS Plugin Gallery and can be installed directly from within OJS.
