Call for contractors open: Systems Support

Join our global, virtual team and help transform scholarly publishing! The Public Knowledge Project (PKP) at Simon Fraser University is seeking a remote, full-time Systems Support Contractor.
As a member of the Systems Team, you will have the opportunity to provide technical expertise and operational support to PKP’s hosting services, expand your systems administration toolset and skills, and work with clients to help them realize their publishing visions.
You will be responsible for supporting, troubleshooting, and managing web-based applications hosted in a Linux environment and should feel as comfortable on the command-line as in a public forum, working closely with users and other team members. As a valuable contributor to a university-based, international group of professionals, you will have the opportunity to work with multiple open source projects and contribute to PKP’s diverse global user community.
In this role, you will be able to work anywhere in the world during the hours that work best for you (apart from regularly scheduled team meetings). PKP aims to build a diverse, inclusive team that reflects our global community of users, and welcomes applications from marginalized communities and those beyond our institutional home in Canada and North America. You will have opportunities to travel, participate in conferences and workshops, and interact with a growing international community of users in the academic, software development, and publishing worlds. This is a fixed-term contract with a probationary period and potential for continuing work.
Required qualifications:
- Experience with Linux, Git, and CLI systems administration
- Experience with nginx, Apache, and PHP
- Experience with MySQL
Additional consideration will be given to candidates for:
- Experience with containerization, observability, and security
- Experience with task automation, infrastructure as code
- Experience with remote work in a small, distributed team
- Exceptional problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
- Experience contributing to a FOSS Project
