PKP Webinar: Structured Citations in OJS 3.6

PKP hosted a webinar featuring Gazi Yücel from Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) introducing the new Structured Citations feature coming in OJS 3.6. Through a live demonstration and Q and A session, Gazi showed how this feature transforms plain-text citations into structured, connected references ready for integration with scholarly systems, supporting transparency, journal integrity, and interoperability across the ecosystem.

PKP Webinar: What’s Coming in OJS 3.6 — Tasks and Discussions

As part of an ongoing series highlighting new features in the upcoming OJS / OMP / OPS 3.6 release, this webinar introduced the new Tasks and Discussions feature. This addition to the editorial workflow brings greater flexibility to collaboration and task management across all stages of the submission process, from creating tasks using pre-built templates to automating their initiation at specific workflow stages.

PKP Webinar: CRAFT-OA Developments in OJS — Metadata Quality and Multilingual Publishing

PKP hosted a webinar with Antti-Jussi Nygård from the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies, showcasing the latest CRAFT-OA enhancements delivered for OJS. CRAFT-OA is a three-year European initiative dedicated to strengthening the Diamond Open Access ecosystem through technical innovation and community tools. The session featured live demonstrations of improvements in multilingual publishing  as well as upcoming metadata innovations in OJS 3.6, such as integration of controlled vocabularies, enhanced contributor metadata, and support for data citations.

PKP Virtual Sprint: Third-Party Plugin Upgrades

March 17 – 19

PKP hosted its first-ever virtual sprint dedicated to supporting third-party plugin upgrades. This hands-on, community-driven event brought contributors together online for coordinated working sessions in a hackathon-style format. Participants collaborated to update plugins, troubleshoot issues, improve documentation, and share knowledge strengthening connections across the PKP community while advancing the usability and sustainability of the PKP plugin ecosystem.

OMP Fest

March 25

PKP hosted OMP Fest, a half-day celebration of the Open Monograph Press (OMP) community. Building on PKP’s recent focus on OMP, the event showcased real-world applications of the platform and brought together those invested in growing open publishing for books and other standalone scholarly publications. The program featured a panel with special guests, followed by presentations and lightning talks from community members.

Charleston Conference Asia

January 26 – 28

PKP’s Strategic Business Development Advisor,  Mark Huskisson, attended the Charleston Conference Asia, connecting with the broader library and publishing community at one of the field’s key international gatherings.

3rd Global Summit on Diamond Open Access, Bengaluru 2026

February 2 – 6, Bengaluru, India

PKP was represented at the third Global Summit on Diamond Open Access, one of the most important international events dedicated to equitable, scholar-led open publishing. PKP’s Scientific Director, Juan Pablo Alperin, presented on How PKP Supports Journals, Provides Services, and Serves as Infrastructure.

Student Journal Forum 2026

February 17 – 19

PKP was proud to be a sponsor of the 11th annual Student Journal Forum (SJF), a free, Canada-wide online event targeted at post-secondary students involved in or considering starting a student journal. The three-day program included panel presentations, student journal presentations, and skillshare sessions, drawing participants from across the country. PKP’s Famira Racy served on the organizing committee for this edition.

COPIM Conference 2026

February 26 – 27

PKP attended the COPIM Conference 2026, engaging with the community advancing community-owned open publishing infrastructures. PKP’s Open Monograph Press (OMP) Coordinator, Zoe Wake Hyde participated on a Panel, “Where are the new scholar-led open access presses and how can we support their emergence?”

Crossref Metadata Sprint 2026

March 4 – 6, Brazil

PKP’s Publication Support Specialist Pedro López Casique and Senior Systems Administrator Janio Sarmento presented at the Crossref Metadata Sprint held in Brazil. The event brought together publishers, developers, and infrastructure providers to advance metadata quality and interoperability across scholarly publishing.

CFI National Research Facilities Workshop 2026

March 11 – 12

Tanja Niemann, Executive Director of Érudit and co-lead within the senior leadership of Coalition Publica, moderated a timely Day 1 panel with colleagues involved in Canada’s Major Scientific Initiatives at the CFI National Research Facilities Workshop. The discussion explored the role of national research infrastructure in combating misinformation and restoring trust in science. The panel sparked conversation and helped cement Coalition Publica’s position as an important advocate for Canadian infrastructure committed to an internationalist approach.

CERN ORE Launch Event

March 26 – 27

PKP was present the CERN ORE Launch Event, a landmark moment for the open access community. ORE is the European Commission’s new open access publishing platform, hosted by CERN, using OJS, marking a significant milestone for PKP’s software and its role in global open infrastructure and diamond open access.
