PKP invites OMP users, those considering its adoption, and anyone interested in how PKP is supporting long form publishing into the future, to an online town hall style conversation on March 12th 2025, 8 AM PDT.
The landscape of open book publishing varies geographically, and “there is observable interest and energy being directed towards open book publishing globally,” says PKP’s Open Monograph Press (OMP) Coordinator, Zoe Wake Hyde, who will share OMP review findings and converse with the community in the upcoming town hall.
Community at the Heart of OMP
OMP, like other PKP software, has community at its heart, as demonstrated by the extensive number of people and organizations around the world working to develop as well as support it.
One example comes from the contributors who joined the 2024 PKP Turin Sprint OMP working group that consisted of folks from 9 different universities or university libraries, infrastructure developers, organizations, a collective, and a learned society.
Another example comes from Open Book Futures (OBF), building on the work of the Community-Led Open Publication Infrastructures for Monographs (COPIM) project, that joins together universities, organizations, publishers, service providers, infrastructure developers (including PKP), and funders in an international consortium “to strengthen the open monograph ecosystem, challenge the barriers that exist, identify ambitious solutions, and ensure a growing body of open books for everyone to benefit from.”
These are only a couple of examples, but it is clear that OMP has a place in the open monograph publishing landscape. PKP invites you to learn more, and contribute to the future of OMP at this upcoming town hall style conversation.
Town Hall Aims and Audience
Zoe Wake Hyde is currently reviewing OMP environments, and asking “how PKP does, can, and should contribute to a thriving open book publishing system.”
Zoe will share an overview of the findings to date, and invite attendees to respond to some prompt questions which will inform the final report.
An open discussion will follow, where you can share your thoughts on OMP, and its role in PKP’s strategic vision.
This event is for OMP users, those considering its adoption, folks who want to contribute to the future of OMP, and anyone interested in how PKP is supporting long form publishing moving forward.
