Enhancing Journal Integrity with the Publication Facts Label for OJS

By Kate Shuttleworth and Famira Racy
The Publication Facts Label is like a rectangle divided into four quadrants. Quadrant one (upper left) is for this article. Quadrant 2 (upper right) is for other articles. Quadrant 3 (lower left) is for this journal. Quadrant 4 (lower right) is for other journals. The Publication Facts include peer-reviewers, reviewer ORCID ID's, author statements, articles accepted, indexing, and editorial board. There is a "learn more about these publication facts" icon at the lower right corner of the label. The PFL is maintained by the Public Knowledge Project.

PKP invites OJS users to a free webinar on November 21, 2024, about the Publication Facts Label (PFL) and how to join the trials. UPDATE: This post now includes the recording of this webinar along with several PFL resources in multiple formats, and instructions on how to install the PFL.

Calling all journal managers using Open Journal Systems (OJS)! Are you looking to raise the profile of your journal by displaying your scholarly publishing information all in one place? As part of the Journal Integrity Initiative (JII), this Public Knowledge Project of Simon Fraser University and Stanford University invites journals to pilot the newly launched Publication Facts Label (PFL).

About the PFL

The PFL is currently available for journals using OJS version 3.3 or higher that wish to register in the pilot program. The label, available to journal managers and editors in the form of an easy-to-install plugin, automatically takes “publication facts” data directly for each article and journal from the OJS publishing platform and displays this label on the article landing page.

The PFL displays information about peer reviewers, author statements, acceptance rate, days to publication, indexing, editor and board members, as well as academic society and publisher. To learn more about the JII and PFL before the event, check out these resources, presented in the order in which they were published:
