PKP is delighted to join the Open Book Collective (OBC) with a new supporter program for Open Monograph Press (OMP). Access the full announcement from OBC: Public Knowledge Project Joins the OBC.
The Open Book Collective (OBC) is a registered charity that brings together open access book publishers, open publishing service providers, and knowledge institutions, including libraries, working in collaboration to secure a more sustainable and equitable future for open access books. – OBC, What We Stand For
The PKP-OMP Supporter Program is advancing the development of enhanced functionalities for Open Monograph Press (OMP), PKP’s free and open-source, end-to-end platform for publishing scholarly books.
This initiative aims to improve usability, accessibility, and integration with indexing services, providing greater visibility for books using OMP. Additionally, the program offers expanded community education resources to support emerging open book publishers. Learn more about PKP’s OMP on our website.
OBC’s Supporter Programmes provide opportunities for libraries and other institutions to offer financial support to open initiatives by subscribing to the Programmes and packages of their choice. As a Service Provider Member, PKP joins initiatives from DOAB and OAPEN, along with Thoth Open Metadata. Libraries and institutions that support these packages will help to sustain the often unseen but vital backbone of the open access publishing ecosystem.
PKP shares OBC’s commitment to a thriving, diverse future for open access books. Alongside the new Supporter Program, we have engaged a dedicated OMP Coordinator, Zoe Wake Hyde, who is leading efforts to ensure that our investment in OMP is directly informed by the community’s needs.
There’s an exciting energy around open book publishing, led by folks like OBC, and to be a part of that is crucial to being able to solve our shared challenges as people who love and value books as a mode of communication. OMP’s long history speaks to PKP’s holistic understanding of the future we wish to see for scholarly communication, and their track record with OJS and its global user community proves they can deliver truly transformational infrastructures. – Zoe Wake Hyde, PKP OMP Coordinator
By joining OBC, PKP can increase the visibility of the work we do and strengthen connections with users and supporters of OMP to continue to enhance and improve the software.
More information on how to contribute feedback on OMP will be shared in the coming weeks.
