
PKP’s community-driven software for scholarly publishing, Open Journal Systems (OJS), has been shortlisted for the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) Impact Award. The original post was published by ALPSP, with additions from The Stationers’ Company.
The Award Finalists
The judges have announced the shortlist for the 2024 awards. The finalists will be invited to present at the lightning sessions at the ALPSP Conference in September, with the winners being announced at the Awards Dinner. This year’s awards are sponsored by PA EDitorial.
The ALPSP Impact Award 2024
Now in its second year, this award recognises initiatives, projects, campaigns or collaborations demonstrating beneficial impact within scholarly publishing and communications.The Impact Award Finalists for 2024 are:
- The Forest of Biologists: a bio-positive publishing initiative from the Company of Biologists.
- JSTOR Access in Prison Initiative: providing access to the same library of academic journals and scholarly resources available to students on transitional college campuses.
- OJS (Open Journal Systems): removing barriers to scholarly publication for researchers worldwide.
The ALPSP Award for Innovation in Publishing 2024
This award recognises a product, service, technology, business model or project which is both innovative and of significant value to scholarly communication. The finalists for this award are:
- The Papermill Alarm: detecting signs of organized research fraud prior to peer-review.
- Morressier’s Integrity Manager: the best integrity tech in a single platform.
- Signals: providing researchers, institutions and publishers with the information they need to understand the trustworthiness and value of research articles.
- Research Organization Registry (ROR): free and open persistent identifier service for research organizations.

This year there is a strong theme running through the awards submissions of research integrity and improving access to scholarly publishing. After careful discussion, the panel has selected the shortlist for each award and we offer our congratulations to all the finalists.
The ALPSP Annual Conference and Awards will be held at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate, UK and streamed online from 11-13 September 2024. All the finalists will be showcased on Wednesday 11 September at the conference with the winners announced at the dinner on Thursday 12 September.
