PKP releases its 2023 Annual Report

PKP releases its 2023 annual report. More than 50 people from around the world join together to work on PKP software for scholarly publishing at a PKP Sprint in Colombia, 2022. The group is photographed from above, wearing PKP badges and waving at the camera, with the host institution in the background.

PKP is pleased to release its Annual Report for fiscal year 2023, including updates on software development and usage, advisory committee, community governance, committees and interest groups, research, publishing services, Coalition Publica partnership, financial and operations, contributors, and more.

It’s been another exciting and productive year, with lots to celebrate during PKP’s 25th Anniversary! We’re pleased to present our Annual Report for the 2023 fiscal year, with updates from our community.

PKP’s institutional home is Simon Fraser University, and we’re proud to be a Core Research Facility of SFU as of 2022. Of particular note is that SFU has partnered with PKP since 2005, almost two decades – a testament to the community nature of the project.

Now that we’re an SFU Core Facility, you will have likely noticed some branding changes in 2023, but PKP is still the same community-driven project it has always been. Being an SFU Core Facility supports the fact that PKP is still not, and never will be for sale!

This year, PKP has taken a different approach to our annual report. You’ll find the report is much more visual than in the past, filled with connections to valuable aspects of our organization that you may have missed in the past.

PKP works to put resources in the hands of the people so that communities can do scholarly publishing in-line with their own commercial-free, knowledge-sharing missions and values.

Access PKP’s 2023 Annual Report to learn more about:

  • World-wide usage of PKP software, and development updates;
  • PKP as part of the open, decentralized, sustainable, and international movement for freedom of knowledge;
  • Re-launching of PKP’s Member Community, and awareness of community-driven governance;
  • Usage statistics of the free and open PKP School;
  • PKP interest groups around education, documentation, multilingualism, and accessibility;

Many thanks to you all – PKP could not do its software development, advocacy, and research, or provide its open education resources and publishing services without you, the community, giving back to this open infrastructure project for the freeing of scholarly publishing.

Please consider joining the PKP Annual General Meeting, May 29th, 2024, for some exciting announcements!
