“Enabling Value” is a webinar series that showcases how ORCID-enabled scholarly service providers enable fast and simple registry interoperability for ORCID member organizations and other scholarly institutions.
On March 26th, 2024, 3 PM UTC, the Public Knowledge Project will join ORCID to share about Open Journal Systems (OJS) and Open Preprint Systems (OPS) open infrastructure for independent scholarly publishing.
Featured Speakers
Erik Hanson is a Systems Developer with PKP where he works on OJS and OPS, as well as Open Monograph Press (OMP), with a focus on metadata and distribution. He holds a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Publishing from Simon Fraser University.
Shivendra Naidoo is the Senior Engagement Lead in the Global Direct Members team at ORCID where he focuses on growing member and integration adoption, and collaborations with Service Providers and Publishers serving the wider research community.

About PKP as an ORCID Certified Service Provider
OJS and OPS integrate with the ORCID public and member API to collect authors’ ORCID iDs using authentication, and displays them on the OJS / OPS systems as well as in publication metadata. Information can also be sent from OJS / OPS back to the ORCID user’s record with ORCID member API.
The certification was free and helps PKP in several ways:
- Increases the visibility of OJS and OPS to ORCID member organizations and to the global research community;
- Assures OJS and OPS stakeholders that PKP’s ORCID integration adheres to best practices recognized throughout the research ecosystem;
- PKP receives enhanced planning and technical support from ORCID;
- PKP gains opportunities to collaborate with ORCID, and to interact with the global research community, and;
- Demonstrates PKP’s commitment to supporting open research infrastructure.
