This post on a new partnership with Sachsenkonsortium is part of the inaugural issue of PKP’s Newsletter, “Archipelago”.
The Public Knowledge Project is excited to announce our recent Development Partnership with Sachsenkonsortium. Through a signed memorandum of understanding (MOU), we are working together to advance the functionality of open peer review within PKP software.
The Development Partnership Pathway involves establishing a dynamic partnership with PKP. This partnership includes significant financial and in-kind support from Sachsenkonsortium, the inclusion of a representative from the consortium on the PKP Advisory Committee, and active involvement in shaping the priorities for PKP’s software development.
Those involved in these collaborative development partnerships have been immensely supportive in advancing the development and refinement of PKP’s open-source software, enhancing the quality and access of scholarly publishing.
Development Partnerships contribute to elevating the quality and research standards of scholarly publishing while serving as a crucial avenue for the community to engage with PKP’s governance. This two-year partnership involves investigating current best practices in open peer review through community outreach.
The insights gained will then inform recommendations for enhancing the functionality of OJS. Sachsenkonsortium joins PKP’s robust connections in Germany, as evidenced by our Development Partnership with Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) and financial support from Sächsische Landesbibliothek — Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Dresden, University of Bamberg Press, and Mannheim University Library.
Kevin Stranack, Director of Operations, Public Knowledge Project, had this to say about the new Development Partnership with Sachsenkonsortium:
“We are very much looking forward to collaborating with Sachsenkonsortium in our shared enthusiasm for adding open peer review functionality to OJS and our other open source software applications. This is a perfect example of an institution investing in a needed feature set that will benefit everyone that uses the software.” — Kevin Stranack
PKP reached out to Sachsenkonsortium to get their thoughts on the new partnership. We heard from their Head of the Department Collection Development, Dr. Karolin Bove:
“Open publication infrastructures require the possibility of open peer review within the quality assurance processes in addition to the traditional procedures. We are pleased that with the current project, together with PKP, we can take OJS even further and design and implement open peer review functions.” — Dr. Karolin Bove
With this announcement, PKP has its focus on the future of this Development Partnership, and will keep its communities apprised of developments.
