“Inclusion in the DOAJ: a panel discussion” took place on June 28th, 2023, presented by Érudit and the Public Knowledge Project, together as Coalition Publica.
More and more journal editorial boards, scholarly societies and university libraries are turning to open access publishing in an era of global knowledge and public good. Those who are thinking about taking this route or who have already launched may be considering how to take part in an ecosystem that supports journal quality along with access and reach. This post and panel recording will hopefully help answer that question.
About the DOAJ
The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) “is a unique and extensive index of diverse open access journals from around the world, driven by a growing community, committed to ensuring quality content is freely available online for everyone.”
The criteria for DOAJ inclusion allow for a diversity of journals to apply at different stages in their development, including journals using PKP’s Open Journal Systems (OJS), for which PKP Docs provides a DOAJ Application Guide for OJS.
Inclusion in the directory benefits journal reputation, ensures adherence to scholarly publishing standards and best practices, facilitates funding and compliance, increases visibility and discoverability, and provides international coverage.
Inclusion in the DOAJ: A panel discussion
The following panel discussion highlights:
- Library publisher best practices for supporting journals in applying for DOAJ inclusion;
- Development of strategies in supporting journals to meet the technical and policy requirements;
- Insights of experienced OJS-using library publishers on structured support systems for journals seeking inclusion in the DOAJ, and more.
