John Willinsky is Khosla Family Professor of Education at Stanford University and Sometime Professor of Education at the University of British Columbia. Much of his scholarly work, including his book, The Access Principle: The Case for Open Access to Research and Scholarship (MIT Press, 2006), winner of two outstanding book awards, is free to download on the PKP website.

Charles Eckman is the University Librarian and Dean of Library Services at the SFU Library. He is a graduate of Princeton University (PhD) and UC Berkeley (MLIS). Before coming to SFU, Chuck was the Associate University Librarian and Director of Collections at UC Berkeley.

Lynn Copeland

Lynn Copeland is the current President of Canadiana.org. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto (BSc), Brandeis University (MA) and Columbia University (MLS). She was the Dean of Library Services at Simon Fraser University until her retirement in 2010. She had previously been Head, Library Systems at SFU and BC Electronic Library Manager, and held librarian positions at University of British Columbia, BC Union Catalogue Project, Rutgers University and UC Berkeley. She has published a variety of articles and spoken on issues primarily relating to library technology, collection development, elearning and libraries, and Interlibrary Loan.

Brian Owen

Brian Owen is the Associate University Librarian for Processing and Systems at SFU Library. He is an Associate with SFU’s Canadian Centre for Studies in Publishing, SFU's Master of Publishing Program, and the Public Knowledge Project (PKP). In 2007, Brian received the Award for Distinguished Service to Research Librarianship from the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL).

Mark Jordan

Mark is Head of Library Systems at SFU. His interests include repository platforms, content management frameworks, and metadata aggregation and reuse. Mark is also the author of Putting Content Online: A Practical Guide for Libraries (Chandos, 2006).

Alec Smecher
Technical Architect, Simon Fraser University Library

Alec Smecher is the technical architect for the Public Knowledge Project, and lead developer of Open Journal Systems (OJS), Open Conference Systems (OCS), Open Harvester Systems (OHS), and the PKP Web Application Library (WAL). When not actively developing PKP software, he runs workshops around the world, runs marathons internationally, and plays drums in a band.

Juan Pablo Alperin

Juan has been a Systems Developer and Researcher with the Public Knowledge Project since April 2007. He has been working for PKP from his native Argentina and traveling around South America as part of the Strengthening Scholarly Research in Latin America research program.

Michael Felczak

Karen Meijer-Kline

Karen has been working in both traditional and new modes of publishing since 2003, in the Netherlands and Canada. She is especially focussed on fostering an actively involved community around scholarly communications and publishing, and enjoys working in this rapidly changing field. She holds an MA from the University of Amsterdam, and received her Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of British Columbia in 2012. She is based in Vancouver, where she can also be found on climbing walls, up in aerial silks, or on her bike.

Bruno Beghelli

Bruno lives in Brazil and has a degree in Journalism. Prior to PKP, he worked as a graphic designer, producing both 2D and 3D computer graphics.
Bruno joined the project in 2011, firstly participating in graphic design work, but due to an interest in programing and project needs, he has since become a system developer.

While not working or playing with his daughter, Bruno likes practicing sports (running, swimming, playing volleyball, mountain bike), reading, playing music and traveling.

Formerly of the Electronic Text Centre at the University of New Brunswick, James has been a PKP jack-of-all trades since 2007. He helps with support, translation, testing, documentation, teaching, research and even some development occasionally. He is based, roughly, in Vancouver.

Jason Nugent

Jason is a software developer for PKP currently living in New Brunswick. Prior to this, he worked for the University of New Brunswick and taught software development and systems administration at Dalhousie University. Passionate about travel, photography, and writing, he tries to tie those three things together as often as possible. He is a competitive cyclist and holds a degree in Chemistry.

Kevin Stranack
Community Services and Learning Coordinator, Simon Fraser University Library

Kevin is an independent library consultant currently working with the Simon Fraser University Library on a variety of open source software initiatives, including the Public Knowledge Project. He works with editors, publishers, software developers, and librarians from around the world, helping them to find open source solutions to their information technology requirements. Kevin received his Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of British Columbia in 2002 and is currently pursuing a Master of Adult Education at the University of Regina.
