Need to implement something similar to ETD UCB

Postby Chitiksha » Fri Dec 03, 2004 6:30 pm

Hi All,

I am new to the forum and I need to implement something similar to Electronic Theses and Dissertations (UBC ETD). Basically it is for USC Computational and Molecular Biology Department and we want to publish
the papers, articles etc which are in pdf format online. These need to be
searchable by author, date, keyword etc. I am new to programming and PHP.
Any pointers shall be helpful. I also think that the Open Journal System should be useful for this requirement however suggestions shall help.
I thank in advance.

In case you weren't aware, the UBC ETD was based off of Virginia Tech's ETD-db, so you may want to try that as a starting point.

Thanks Kevin,

I think this will be a good starting point.
I see that it requires Perl... Now I will have
to learn two new languages.. Perl and Php :-(
Any other suggestions will be welcome

Electronic Thesis and Dissertations System

Postby ramon » Mon Dec 06, 2004 3:37 am

We at IBICT also have a full package, in 2 different versions for publishing electronic thesis and dissertations, called TEDE.

Version 1: Intended for general Universities, where each department controls its Post-graduate area and student/author registration, online submission by students/authors with metadata input, online publishing by the library, and a general system administration area.

Version 2: More compact, all submission and publication process by the library.

All OAI compliant.

Hello jocuri,

Unfortunately, TEDE will be discontinued.
It was written too long ago and there has been no further support or development, due to my institution's inability to maintain technology for a long lifespan.
There are plans to implement similar features into DSpace, but I'm not aware of how that project is going, as I'm not a part of it.
What DSpace would require, of the top of my head, is the ETD format for collecting and providing data (it currently only uses OAI-PMH, qualified and unqualified).
You'll need to use the latest DSpace version for it.
