selective DOI generation/display

Postby ronniebrito » Tue Dec 10, 2013 4:09 am

we are having a problem related to DOI assigments.
there is a journal that has been using OJS for some years, and now it is adopting DOI for its articles.
but, due to budget restriction, it is unfeasible to deposit the DOI name for every article.. there are many and it is desired to use DOI just with new ones.

and we didn't find an option on OJS to select just certain issues to assign DOI names ( it is possible to deposit editon xmls individualy, but the problem is that as soon as DOI plugin is activated, it displays DOI names on articles abstract pages and if edition´s DOI names are not deposit, the url stays invalid)

is there a way to generate DOI names selectively and/or to choose whether to show DOI url on articles abstract page for certain issues?

it would be a required feature

Hi ronniebrito,

This is not possible at the moment, but we will consider it in the near future. If you really really really need it immediately, I think there is a work around -- you should choose the last option for DOI Suffix (individual DOI suffixes) in the DOI plug-in settings; then leave the DOI suffixes empty for the objects you don't want the DOIs to be assigned to.

Hi Bozana,

Nice to see that you are also taking this in consideration. :-)
This bug was the closest I found related with this:
James proposes a cutoff year that it's fine... may be we need to think in a "exclusion feature" that will be more flexible.
