User Guide for different versions of OJS?

Postby coblej » Mon Mar 14, 2011 6:47 am

We are in the process of upgrading from OJS 2.2.4 to 2.3.4. I would like to be able to communicate to our journal managers, etc., the changes that are entailed in this upgrade. The User Guide for 2.3.3 ( includes a nice section on "What's New in 2.3.3" (though it doesn't say exactly new since when -- 2.3.2?). I haven't been able to find User Guide's with similar a similar section for the other releases between 2.2.4 and 2.3.4 (i.e., for 2.3.0, 2.3.1, 2.3.2, and 2.3.4 itself). Does anyone know if they exist? I did find a User Guide for 2.3.1 ( but it doesn't appear to have a "What's New" section. The 2.3.4 distribution package includes ChangeLog's and README's for each intervening version but, ideally, I'd like something more end-user oriented (like the "What's New in 2.3.3" section) if such a thing exists.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hi Jim,

Happy to be of help. OJS 2.3.4 is basically a stability/bugfix update of OJS 2.3.3, and so doesn't include any new functionality -- just fixes. (You may want to see the OJS Recommended Patches page; the 2.3.3.-3 subpage lists all bug fixes that OJS 2.3.4 includes.)

This page includes a partial listing of changes between OJS 2.2.x and 2.3 -- it's the highlights, basically. You should be able to combine that and the OJS 2.3.3 "What's New" page to get a good idea on the new functionality that editors will see once you've upgraded.

From 2.3.3 on, we'll be releasing a new userguide every time we release a major (feature-changing) release of the software; and we'll package a "what's new" page along with the guide, so that all necessary information is available in one place.

If you have any further questions about the changes you see, let us know!
