Figures in html galleys

Postby lednakashim » Tue Jan 11, 2011 3:00 pm

This is a best practices inquiry.

How does your journal insert images into html galleys?

The way I am currently doing it is manually making a separate folder via ftp that containes images and linking to that folder in html via <img src="folder/issue/article/image/"> />. Is there some more elegant solution that uses come content management features that I am not aware of?

Hi lednakashim,

There are a few different ways you can upload images with an HTML galley. If your galleys include a large number of images, then creating a separate directory and FTPing them as you have been doing might be the most efficient way to go. You can also upload images during the HTML galley upload process -- after you upload an HTML galley, you are presented with an HTML Galley Edit page, which includes an image upload section. Images uploaded here can be linked to by the following tag:

<img src="uploadedImage.jpg" alt="...." />

... so you don't have to specify a directory.

You can also use the Articles XML Import/Export plugin to upload large amounts of content, including images. More information on this plugin (and others) can be found here: ... rting_Data.

I tried uploading two images to HTML galley. The first image was successfully uploaded but the second one got an error message:

DB Error: Duplicate entry '566' for key 'article_html_galley_images_pkey'

Any fix?

I changed the article_html_galley_images_pkey from unique to index. It seems working. Not sure if this will have other consequence. This is the first time I am testing the HTML version of article. Please advise. Thanks.

Hi Paul,

That database error seems to imply that there is/was a single-column unique index, which shouldn't be the case; see dbscripts/xml/ojs_schema.xml for the proper definition of that index (which should contain two columns).
