OJS with ORCID

We found a message on OCS forum (viewtopic.php?f=14&t=8898) related to this topic and want to know if anybody has done some work on this.

We are very interested on this feature and if anybody has make some work we can start contributing.

Hello!
As I understand the current implementation of ORCID plugin only displays user profile along the article? And it doesn't automatically update the user's ORCID profile with newly published article?

That is correct. To automatically update the user's ORCID profile from OJS, a plugin would need to be written which would use the ORCID API to request modify permissions on behalf of the user, record an access token locally, and then push the modifications at publication to the ORCID profiles of those authors who granted the permission.

Critical to making this work (for both development testing and for usage by the journal) is being a ORCID member institution. C.f. http://support.orcid.org/knowledgebase/articles/116874-orcid-api-guide regarding API restrictions. The last I heard, PKP was not prioritizing this development directly because they are not currently a member institution. Pitt is a member institution, but there aren't active plans for an OJS plugin here currently.
