Problem with allow_envelope_sender

Postby CarlosLlongo » Fri Sep 14, 2012 12:00 pm

I have been asked to enable this option, so I modified the config file to enable allow_envelope_sender and default_envelope_sender. The problem is that from that moment OJS stops sending any emails.

I tried to create a new user, and no mails where send. Also, sending a mail directly from the mail templates page did nothing. Once I reverted the changes in the config file, all went back to normal.

I have read the Advanced OJS Configuration and it says to change de mail server configuration, but my OJS is located in a hosting server, so I can't do any of those changes.

Any solution?

Hi Carlos,

If you're not using SMTP to deliver mail, the allow_envelope_sender option causes OJS to start specifying the "-f" option to the mail transfer agent on your server. If your server doesn't allow that, it'll likely throw the emails away. It sounds like that's what's happening.

One alternative would be to try using SMTP to send (see the options for SMTP); this method uses the "FROM" command to tell the server who the message is coming from. But even in this case, if the mail server won't accept what OJS is telling it, then you won't be able to send messages this way.
