Your request timed out. Please retry the request

Postby ganesh » Tue Jul 29, 2014 9:26 am

Hi,

At the time of user registration our website visitors are receiving an error message on the browser screen i.e.
"Your request timed out. Please retry the request."
Also, there is no new user added in the list of registered users.

What is the cause of this error, and what will be the solutions.
Kindly explain it.

Regards

Ganesh

Hi Ganesh,

What version of OJS are you using?
Have you checked your server's error log for relevant messages?
Are you able to send emails in other parts of OJS?

Dear Alec,

1) I am using OJS 2.4.2.0.

2) given below the server log:

ip_address- - [29/Jul/2014:13:26:21 -0400] "GET /journals/index.php/journal1/manager/createUser?source=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.website.com%2Fjournals%2Findex.php%2Fjournal1%2Fmanager%2Fpeople%2Fall%3FsearchInitial%3D%26amp%3BsearchField%3Dfirst_name%26amp%3BsearchMatch%3Dcontains%26amp%3Bsearch%3Dbhim%26amp%3BdateFromDay%3D%26amp%3BdateFromYear%3D%26amp%3BdateFromMonth%3D%26amp%3BdateToDay%3D%26amp%3BdateToYear%3D%26amp%3BdateToMonth%3D HTTP/1.1" 200 42728 "http://www.website.com/journals/index.php/journal1/manager/people/all" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:30.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/30.0"
ip_address- - [29/Jul/2014:13:26:45 -0400] "GET /journals/index.php/journal1/manager/suggestUsername?firstName=A&lastName=Bhim HTTP/1.1" 200 7 "http://www.website.com/journals/index.php/journal1/manager/createUser?source=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.website.com%2Fjournals%2Findex.php%2Fjournal1%2Fmanager%2Fpeople%2Fall%3FsearchInitial%3D%26amp%3BsearchField%3Dfirst_name%26amp%3BsearchMatch%3Dcontains%26amp%3Bsearch%3Dbhatia%26amp%3BdateFromDay%3D%26amp%3BdateFromYear%3D%26amp%3BdateFromMonth%3D%26amp%3BdateToDay%3D%26amp%3BdateToYear%3D%26amp%3BdateToMonth%3D" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:30.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/30.0"

In above code, I am replaced original ip_address and website address for security reasons.

3) We are unable to send emails through OJS.

Kindly reply.

Gaensh

Hi Ganesh,

Your SMTP configuration in your config.inc.php is probably incorrect. OJS may attempt to send an email to the user upon registration; if your email sending configuration isn't correct, it may time out attempting to send the message.

Dear Alec

Thanks for your reply.
In which section/line of config.inc.php file will check the smtp configuration?
<I am not expert in php language>

Kindly explain it in detail.

Dear Alec

This is in continuation of my earlier post.
I just found that the OJS system is not sending the emails outside of our domain like gmail or yahoo etc.
however I am able to send the email within domain through OJS.

Kindly provide the solution.

Hi Ganesh,

For SMTP configuration, look at the area of the config.inc.php file starting with...

Code: Select all

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; Email Settings ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

[email]

; Use SMTP for sending mail instead of mail()
; smtp = On

Dear Alec

I have two queries:

1) I am appending the code of my config.inc.php file for your review

Code: Select all

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; Email Settings ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

[email]

; Use SMTP for sending mail instead of mail()
 smtp = On

; SMTP server settings
 smtp_server = mail.domain.com
 smtp_port = 25

; Enable SMTP authentication
; Supported mechanisms: PLAIN, LOGIN, CRAM-MD5, and DIGEST-MD5
 smtp_auth = PLAIN
 smtp_username = me@domain.com
 smtp_password = xyz1234

; Allow envelope sender to be specified
; (may not be possible with some server configurations)
; allow_envelope_sender = Off

; Default envelope sender to use if none is specified elsewhere
 default_envelope_sender = me@domain.com

; Enable attachments in the various "Send Email" pages.
; (Disabling here will not disable attachments on features that
; require them, e.g. attachment-based reviews)
enable_attachments = On

; Amount of time required between attempts to send non-editorial emails
; in seconds. This can be used to help prevent email relaying via OJS.
time_between_emails = 3600

; Maximum number of recipients that can be included in a single email
; (either as To:, Cc:, or Bcc: addresses) for a non-priveleged user
max_recipients = 10

; If enabled, email addresses must be validated before login is possible.
require_validation = On

; Maximum number of days before an unvalidated account expires and is deleted
validation_timeout = 14

(In above code, I am replaced original website/email address for security reasons.)

2) I just found that the OJS system is not sending the emails outside of our domain e.g. gmail or yahoo etc.
however I am able to send the email within domain through OJS.

Kindly provide the solution.

Hi Ganesh,

I suspect that there is either a mismatch in configuration in the settings you've quoted -- I can't comment specifically without knowing anything about your host -- or your host is not sending certain messages because of security restrictions they have configured on their end. For example, using Gmail's SMTP service will force all sender email addresses to be the same as the sender's account. I'm afraid this is very dependent on your SMTP server so I can't provide more detail than that. If you have another SMTP server available, or local mail delivery (with SMTP disabled) is an option, I'd suggest trying those to see how the behavior is different.
