Public availability without login in File Browser

Postby sgc » Wed Mar 14, 2012 10:52 am

When we use the Files Browser feature in OCS – is there a way to make the files available publicly - that is without the user having to log in/register to see what’s available? Currently the files are not available to the public but our users would like to be able to use this function to post manual registration forms and other pre registration information.

If this is not currently available is there any way that it could be added in future versions as it would be very useful? Thanks.

Hi Simon,

There is a plugin for OJS at that would be possible to port to OCS. Alternatively, some users have reported success by providing a symbolic link from the files path into the public files directory and accessing it via the built-in Files Browser. However, longer-term, we're eventually going to remove the public files directory entirely. It's generally dangerous to allow arbitrary uploads into web-accessible locations (think e.g. of someone gaining access to your managerial account and uploading PHP scripts that can be executed server-side).
