Internet Explorer: Font Size Problem

Postby mauritzius » Fri Oct 07, 2011 4:45 am

Hello everybody,

we just set up a new conference site using OCS and are having troubles displaying the page correctly on Internet Explorer! The home page is fine, but by clicking on "Call for Papers" or some of the other links, the font size increases drastically! Everything is working fine in Firefox...

Could someone have a look at this problem at

Thank you very much!

Hi mauritzius,

Have you tried using an HTML validator such as

Hello mauritzius,

Checking your HTML there's a missing part in your header title:

Code: Select all

<img usemap="#mappe" src="/ocs/logo.jpg" border="0" alt="IGRT Salzburg 2011" /><map name="mappe"> <area title="&Ouml;GMP" shape="rect" coords="6,85,85,163" href="" alt="&Ouml;GMP" target="_blank" /> <area title="radART" shape="rect" co

This happens in at least 2 of the pages I could see:
- Call for papers
- Current conferences

This is an odd behavior as the header should be same for all pages, as it seems you're using the alternate header option to add the image map.
I would customize the lib/pkp/templates/common/header.tpl to not add the H1 when using that option, allow in more flexible, complex and valid HTML.
Here's an example:
Customized header.tpl, removing the H1 when using alternate header.
(4.67 KiB) Downloaded 86 times

I would suggest checking the configuration options of those pages and the database for any inconsistencies, although I couldn't find any "MS Word" code anywhere.
Besides that error in the code, I couldn't find anything else via Firebug or simple code comparison of the index page and the other two listed above.

Thank you very much for your quick responses, it was indeed a problem with the image map. This time, IE was right in interpreting the page this way...

For now I simply disabled the image map. This problem occured because the input field for the alternate header was too short, so I tried to stuff the relevant image map directly into the database, but the entry was truncated anyways. There are, however, two entries in the database that contain the header. Obviously, one was long enough while the other became truncated.

I will adjust the template, thanks again for your help!
