This is an informational message about OJS scripts timeouts, php, and firefox 1.5x. Many people have been posting issues with php timing out with long script execution times. I also noticed many are not able to access the php.ini file since they are not the administrator or manager of the servers their ojs is installed.
In a previous topic on installation problems http://pkp.sfu.ca/support/forum/viewtopic.php?t=744 I suggested that people change or create a .htaccess file and place these php overrides below. These overrides will allow longer execution times and larger file sizes and the numbers can be adjusted as needed.
Code: Select all
php_value max_execution_time 120
php_value memory_limit 200M
php_value post_max_size 20M
php_value upload_max_filesize 20M
Use these php overrides with caution and make sure if you are in a hosted environment that this is allowable. This may also be handy for those who manage their own servers and multiple websites and do not want to change the globals in the php.ini. Using .htaccess files will allow changing of one websites ability and not the entire servers hosted websites thus reducing possible resource bottlenecks.
For firefox and I think mozilla you can up your script execution times by typing in about:config in the browser address bar and follow it as a url.
look for the
Code: Select all
and change this to something higher.
These suggested .htaccess and firefox/mozilla settings are only needed for installation, migration of large journal files, development, and testing. As for after installation, I do not think these adjustments are necessary.
