Description James MacGregor 2014-06-26 10:45:15 PDT
Not currently an exhaustive list of things to be done, probably needs review:

User registration:
- remove the check by default for the Reader role - that needs to be opt-in, rather than opt-out for consent.

- provide an easier method to unsubscribe from the notification block mailing list option. Currently, users must have their original email to retrieve a key to unsubscribe. This should be incredibly easy: a field to add the email address that wants to be unsubscribed.

- provide an easier, central method overall to manage subscriptions, the kinds of contacts that users receive, etc. when registered. Registered users should be able to opt out of receiving notification of new content (specifically Announcements; the Notify Users email). This should be available from their User Profile. This should also include/integrate the "Manage Notifications" option found in the Notifications sidebar block.

- add an Unsubscribe link to all outgoing Notify Users, New Announcements, and similar emails. Unsubscribe link should go to a general info page, with information on how to unsubscribe from mailing lists etc.

James, is this still up to date? Does the FAQ stuff adequately cover this?

I'm going to defer this for now - my brain doesn't have enough cells to wrap itself around this, and it'll almost certainly require locale changes. Anyone needing a workaround in the meantime should consult our FAQ:
