Description James MacGregor 2008-04-30 11:48:28 PDT
The Home link on the top navigation bar always points to the site index (/index.php/index/index), even when a user is viewing a conference page. Additionally, I'm not entirely sure if the double "/index" is necessary.

If a user is viewing a conference page, this link should probably point to the conference home page (/index.php/conferencename/). However, since there isn't an easy way to get to the site root page (I normally use the "My Journals" link in OJS, but I'm normally an admin) removing the ability to easily navigate to the site root may conceivably be a problem.

"Home" was made to always point to the root index page because otherwise the same link might conceivably behave differently depending on where the user was, leading to confusion. The most common situation is where OCS will be used to host only a single conference or scheduled conference, but in that case they should be able to use the "Redirect" function to get the "Home" link to point to that particular conference. Suggestions welcome, but I think the "Home" link should behave predictably, even if it means pointing at the main index page. (The breadcrumbs generally give a better way to jump directly to the particular conference's home.)

I agree that we need a consistent Home link, but this is still somewhat problematic when the rest of the links in that navigation bar are context-sensitive.

We do have two Home links very near each other: the one on the navigation bar, and the one in the breadcrumb. Unless I'm missing something, they both point to /index.php/index. Would it be possible to have the nav bar link act in a context-sensitive way while the breadcrumb points to /index.php/index (and rename one of them to avoid confusion); or could we delete the breadcrumb "Home" link altogether?
