PKP Hires Director of Operations
May 30, 2021
The Public Knowledge Project (PKP) is thrilled to welcome back Kevin Stranack to the PKP leadership team. Kevin has been appointed the inaugural Director of Operations for the Public Knowledge Project in its recent designation as Simon Fraser University’s newest Core Facility. Kevin comes to this position with 20 years of leadership in academic librarianship and scholarly communication, most recently as the University Librarian at the University of Northern British Columbia. He is no stranger to the PKP family. From 2006 to 2021, he was a member of the PKP team, working on daily operations, strategic plans, community engagement, the founding of PKP School, and other initiatives.
Kevin holds a Masters in Library and Information Studies (UBC) as well as a Masters in Education (Regina), and is completing a Program in Business Leadership (Queensland). As Director of Operations of a SFU Core Facility, Kevin will report to the Vice President of Research and International. Beginning on June 13, 2022, when he begins as Operations Director, he will be responsible for managing all areas of PKP’s operations including Research and Advocacy, Software Development, and Publishing Services.
“Kevin intimately knows and shares PKP’s ethos which will allow him to hit the ground running from day one,” says PKP’s Co-Scientific Director, Juan Pablo Alperin. He adds: “We are lucky to have him back at PKP, even though, in spirit, we know he never left us.”
His passion for and commitment to the advancement of open access to research and the development of open source software to support open infrastructure in scholarly communication can only enhance PKP efforts to make research and scholarship a greater public good in the years ahead.
Please join us in welcoming Kevin Stranack.
