Forum rules
This forum is meant for general questions about the usability of OJS from an everyday user's perspective: journal managers, authors, and editors are welcome to post questions here, as are librarians and other support staff. We welcome general questions about the role of OJS and how the workflow works, as well as specific function- or user-related questions.

What to do if you have general, workflow or usability questions about OJS:

1. Read the documentation. We've written documentation to cover from OJS basics to system administration and code development, and we encourage you to read it.

2. take a look at the tutorials. We will continue to add tutorials covering OJS basics as time goes on.

3. Post a question. Questions are always welcome here, but if it's a technical question you should probably post to the OJS Technical Support subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

I'm trying to solve a string of problems related to a reinstall of ojs. Apologies for so many questions, but I'm finding it hard to get ojs going again.

Here's where I'm at:

An author has submitted 3 articles that await in the queue for assignment. The editor logs in and sees them. He clicks on the titles of the articles, but gets nothing but a blank page in response to one article. The other two links don't work at all. I can go to the journal_files directory and see the submitted MS Word Docs, so I know the submit part works.

Here's what's getting generated in Apache's log files as I try to open these submissions-

PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 19441 bytes) in /var/www/html/ojs/lib/smarty/Smarty_Compiler.class.php on line 207, referer: http://myserver/ojs/index.php/JNLR/edit ... Unassigned

PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 101 bytes) in /var/www/html/ojs/classes/session/Session.inc.php on line 131, referer: http://myserver/ojs/index.php/JNLR/edit ... Unassigned

PHP Warning: Unknown: A session is active. You cannot change the session module's ini settings at this time. in Unknown on line 0, referer: http://myserver/ojs/index.php/JNLR/edit ... Unassigned

Thanks for any help,

Hi Jim,

You'll have to increase the maximum amount of memory allowed for PHP in the php.ini configuration file -- the default of 8M often isn't enough. Find the memory_limit directive and increase the value.
