Premature end of script headers: php5.cgi - 500 Internal Ser

Hello,

I've just downloaded and installed OCS Ver 2.0 on my Dreamhost.com hosting plan.

When I try to go to certain pages (for example):
http://conference.jctonline.org/index.p ... index/user (User Home)
http://conference.jctonline.org/index.p ... Conference (Create Conference)

I get the following error in my error.log:

Premature end of script headers: php5.cgi

At this point, all I have been able to do is set up my user profile, and click on the About page.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I believe you can see more details of the error if you add the following line to your index.php, right after the <?php line:

ini_set('display_errors', E_ALL);

I can't login to your OCS site since I don't have your login info and I can't create a user account since there's no conference on your site to register for. So I wasn't able to see the phpinfo page or try going to User Home to see the error.

This line already exists in the index.php where you suggested to place it (line 2).

Thanks for your reply regarding the buggy Zend Optimizer.

I believe I have disabled Zend Optimizer now via modifications to my php.ini file.

I added this line:

What is PHP's memory_limit set to? Many sites use a default of 8M, and OCS often needs more, especially for administrative tasks like creating a conference. (Actual memory requirements depend heavily on the version of PHP you're using, but 16M seems to work well.)

My memory_limit is set to 90M.

This is a really frustrating bug.

As I have no real way to debug. Just getting the 500 internal server and the error.log messag is the subject of this thread.

Is there anything else I should be checking?

Hi lsirtosky,

Hmm, in that case, I'd still suspect Zend Optimizer. Even with all optimization passes disabled, you may still be encountering the debug_backtrace bug. Could you try temporarily removing all references to Zend Optimizer from your php.ini file? These lines should look something like:

Just add a semicolon to the start of each line, restart your web server (or FastCGI, if you're using it), and try again.

Commenting out these lines fixed my issue.

Hmmmm.... well this sucks that I can't use Zend Optimizer. But at least I can get on with my evaluation of this software. I'm hoping it will serve my client's needs.

If we do end up using OCS, is there any workaround for this debug_backtrace bug?

Glad to hear it's working! You can get Zend Optimizer working again either by upgrading it to the most recent release (which I understand has been fixed) or by disabling the parts of OCS that use the Optimizer. To do the latter, you'll need to edit a few files:

• classes/db/DAO.inc.php
• classes/form/Form.inc.php

Look for any calls to debug_backtrace, e.g.

Prevent these blocks from running by adding a false condition to that first "if" statement:

You'll need to do this in a half-dozen places or so between the two files. Also make sure that the show_stacktrace option in config.inc.php is disabled.

This will disable some plugin-related features, but these shouldn't affect you unless you start writing your own plugins.
