What to do if you have a technical problem with OCS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved. Please note that this FAQ is OJS-centric, but most issues are applicable to both platforms.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OCS Conference Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OCS Development subforum.

Two suggested improvements to "Track" handling in

Postby Ray Beswick » Tue Mar 02, 2004 6:27 pm

ISSUE 1:

An interesting issue arises when one gets authors to pick a primary
track (mandatory) and a secondary track (optional). Since the original
software did not have tracks, the software had another way of indicating the equivalent in the program schedule: "conference themes or strands" in the conference scheduler -- that is, the chair decided where a paper fit rather than the author.

With the author providing tracks, OCS should pickup that information and
associate it with the paper automatically. Since program chairs may not
want to include that information in the online schedule, there should be
some way in the scheduling part of the software to indicate "include
track Y/N".

Since the chair may want to pick the tracks, the current setup is still
required.

ISSUE 2:

To get "tracks" the program chair checks box 2.2 (d) in setup. The
chair then provides a list of tracks.

Currently, if you do NOT check the box but enter some track names, then
tracks will display anyway (in the metadata section of the submission
process). However, picking a track becomes optional (rather than
mandatory when the box is checked).

I can't think of any reason to make up a list of tracks if you don't
intend to use them. So, unless box 2.2(d) is checked, tracks should not
display. If 2.2(d) is checked but no tracks are entered, OCS should
give an error message. Similarly, if the chair tries to enter tracks without checking 2.2(d), OCS should give an error message.
