What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

[SOLVED] Uploaded custom *.css breaks basic layout

Postby istoyanov » Thu Nov 08, 2007 10:29 am

After uploading a custom *.css file with only some color values changed, I've noticed that the contents of some pages moved to the left, leaving virtually no space between the text and the browser window (see the second screen-shot below). These pages are in particular the pop-up windows showing "Journal Help", the various "Reading Tools" and the frame-split page showing the abstract/HTML galley + RT.

Here's a screen-shot of the layout with the original common.css:

... and here's the same with the modified one (it is interesting, that the window can't be resized, al least in Firefox):

I'd appreciate any hints on how to fix the appearance of the mentioned OJS components to match the original ones.

Hi istoyanov,

Are you uploading a modified version of common.css? This will cause layout problems because it overrides other styles that are conditionally included based on what part of the site you're viewing. This won't happen if you selectively override styles rather than including the entire common.css file along with your modifications, since the original common.css file is included anyway.
