What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

pdf/html stats off in article_xml_galleys

Postby jmir » Tue Jun 26, 2007 9:51 am

I noted that the stats for PDF/HTML views are completely off.
In the table article_xml_galleys, I see that even newly submitted manuscripts have 1407 views in the pdf version and 251835 as HTML version:

Full Texts xml_galley_id galley_id article_id label galley_type views
Edit 1 8 649 HTML application/xhtml+xml 251835
Edit 2 8 649 PDF application/pdf 1407
Edit 1 9 650 HTML application/xhtml+xml 251835
Edit 2 9 650 PDF application/pdf 1407
Edit 1 10 651 HTML application/xhtml+xml 251835
Edit 2 10 651 PDF application/pdf 1407
Edit 1 11 652 HTML application/xhtml+xml 251835
Edit 2 11 652 PDF application/pdf 1407

What's the reason / fix ?

Hi Gunther,

Have you tried corroborating the numbers against your web server log? Off the top of my head, you might try looking for search engines and indexing tools that repeatedly request particular URLs such as the galley view URL. FYI, OJS 2.2 will contain user agent filtering so that search engine indexing won't skew the view counts.

No, crawlers cannot be the explanation. All articles start off with the exactly same count (even if the article has just been submitted and is not even published).

Hi Gunther,

As you know, the XML Galleys plug-in is still unreleased and as such, somewhat untested. It looks like the version you're using is also somewhat older than the current CVS version -- the xml_galley_id column should be a unique integer (auto-incremented), rather than duplicated for each article/galley combination. This was changed to specifically address the issue you're seeing.

To fix this, download the most recent version of the XML Galleys plug-in, and update the article_xml_galleys table. You will most likely have to do this by hand, using the schema.xml file provided with the plug-in as a guide. Alternatively, you might be able to simply disable/upgrade/enable the XML Galleys plugin, but if you have difficulties updating the schema, you may have to use the command-line "php upgrade.php upgrade" to ensure that the table schema is updated properly.
