Sharing experience: Update source code, drop cache files

Postby mcampos » Thu Jun 14, 2007 11:55 am

I would like to share experience that I had when altering OJS source code for particular necessity. Always when I altered a file locally in my computer and upload this file to server, the changes didn't appear when open page in browser. I needed put some extra characters to increase the file size or delete to decrease, for that the system don't use the page in cache, rendering a new version of the page. This process of update pages was very tiring. For you don't have to past for this, you can drop files in folder cache/t_compile on webserver, thus, the page is rendered again showing the new changes.

I wait that it helps who need to do changes in OJS source code to customize the system.

Sorry by English errors.

Hi Manoel,

If you set file permissions properly (i.e. so that the web server can administer files in the cache directory, including all subdirectories), flushing the template files manually shouldn't be necessary. If you're on a Unix-like server, I'd suggest making sure permissions on your cache directory are properly set using the -R options to chmod, chown, and chgrp.
