What to do if you have a technical problem with OCS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved. Please note that this FAQ is OJS-centric, but most issues are applicable to both platforms.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OCS Conference Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OCS Development subforum.

What track stands for?

Is more like category , subject, both?

Lets say you have a event like this:

Posters and oral presentation (types)

basic research, applied research (areas, subjects)

So you create tracks for both of those above?

Regards

Hi Oliver,

Conferences tend to have several different groupings for papers, typically by audience; for example, a conference on library software could have a technical track, a management track, etc. In your above example, you might create tracks for Basic Research and Applied Research; if you were going to have a poster session, you might include a track for that too, if you wanted to have individual posters represented in the online proceedings.

Note that a submission can only be in one track, so if you find that a submission needs to be in two, I'd suggest choosing your tracks more carefully.

ok.

I went to the configutation of an conference

there are some other fields that could be used to categorize stuff

The issue is how to translate the "track" word.
The automatic translation of the word to portuguese is a word regarging:

4. Usually, tracks. footprints or other marks left by an animal, person, or vehicle: a lion's tracks; car tracks.
5. a path made or beaten by or as if by the feet of people or animals; trail: to follow the track of a murderer.

the word is "trilha"

It could be translated as something like: Modality (poster, oral presentation)

The conferences that I know generaly has more than 1 modality to submitt papers

Ramon translated as "session", but I think this word does not fit very well.

But you said that Tracks are about audience.

If I translate for some word like "theme" or "area" how can be possible to choose the type of the presentation (poster or oral presentation) ?

does not make sense to create tracks like this

basic research - poster
applied research - poster

basic research - oral presentation
applied research - oral presentation

Im looking to many conference sites in Brazil and most of them organize the event around the "modalities" (oral, poster, courses), rather than the "theme"

Do you think that translate "track" to "modality" or "type" can be a good idea?

I found this:

Code: Select all
   <message key="submission.paperType">Submission Type</message>
   <message key="submission.paperType.single">Single Presentation</message>
   <message key="submission.paperType.panel">Panel Presentation</message>

Is it possible to create more options?
This should be the place for insert stuff like:
Panel, Oral comunication, Rould Table, simposium,?

Or this is the place to set up if you will present alone of with someone else?

Hi ozp,

I'd suggest using the "Type" metadata field. You can enable this on Scheduled Conference Setup, page 2.

ok, but is it possible to create more than 2 types?

The events that I go in Brazil (most about psychology) have many types of presentations

http://www.google.com/translate?u=http% ... BR&ie=UTF8

this is the biggest psychology event in Brazil

Area and Subject would fit on Track

Type would fit on Type, but more options are needed

At least those:
Poster: one or more authors present a poster
Single Speech: one speech
Group Speech: tree or more speech

I think if there is no way to create types per event would be better to use "track" as type

Hi ozp,

The "type" field is a free-form text field; there's no restriction to a particular set of types.

So is possible to create more types?

I grep a type message key and found it here:

templates/presenter/submission/management.tpl: {translate key="submission.paperType.panel"}
templates/presenter/submit/step2.tpl: <option {if $paperType==SUBMISSION_TYPE_PANEL}selected="selected" {/if}value="{$smarty.const.SUBMISSION_TYPE_PANEL}">{translate key="submission.paperType.panel"}</option>
templates/reviewer/submission.tpl: {translate key="submission.paperType.panel"}
templates/trackDirector/submission/management.tpl: {translate key="submission.paperType.panel"}

So its just a matter to add more options on the templates and on the locales files?

Hi ozp,

No, the type field I'm referring to is a Dublin Core metadata element. You need to enable it on Scheduled Conference Setup, page 2; after this, it will appear on the submission and metadata forms.

If you go ahead with extending the panel vs. single presentation distinction to include more options, you may have problems in the future as we implement more support for panel presentations.

hello asmecher!

I think we are talking about different things.

Are you talking about this?

Type (Method/Approach)
Provide examples of relevant research types, methods, and approaches for this field:

I understand this as the Type of research that was done regarding the paper/abstract submitted.

example: a abstract that was made using the "single case study method"

Im talking about different kinds of presentations at an event.

Some examples from one event that happens here:

Code: Select all
Poster: a piece of paper that you stick at the wall

Oral communication: 15 minutes of speech alone

Round table: 3-4 people making discussion about a subject (different points of view) (1:20 hour)

Symposium: 3-4 people presenting research findings about a subject (1:20 hour)

Coordinated session: 3-5 people from the same research group talks about their research (1:20 hour)

Speech: 50 minutes of speech alone about anything

First steps: 25 minutes of speech (for newbies to attend)

Usually there are some basic sets for those presentations, they have different names at the events, but its basic this:

Poster
Oral comunication alone
Group communication

Is it possible to setup this?

Hi ozp,

I see your point. We've filed a Bugzilla entry describing an extension of the single/multiple distinction that should support more types; see http://pkp.sfu.ca/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2919 for details. You'll have to find a compromise in the meantime, e.g. by taking a note onto the end of the Abstract or similar.

hello, sorry for the huge delay on this

Please make sure that those options will be available

Session and Track with individual or group based presentation

So you will have a Session Type and Track with option to choose between individual or group based presentations

Example:

Track: Basic research
Session Type: Round Table
(group based presentation only)

Track: Basic Research
Session Type: oral comunication
(individual presentation only)

Hello Ramon!

I'm working like crazy and I dont have time for the translation any more

I had the time by july (vacation) but now all my time is gone

I dont know what to do. I think its possible to find free software translation communities in Brazil that translate a lot of free software

Or pay someone to do it

All the institutions and agencies in Brazil could get togheter and gatter some money for that

I can contribute
