1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved. Please note that this FAQ is OJS-centric, but most issues are applicable to both platforms.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OCS Conference Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OCS Development subforum.

What does "Record" button do?

Postby huangs3 » Thu Jun 07, 2007 12:10 pm

Hi, I got a simple question want to know. In the "Organizing Team" setup page there is a "Record" button but not "save". What does "record" button mean in general in OCS? and how is it different from "save"?
Thank you!

Hi huangs3,

Typically, "Save" is used when there is a pageful of settings that will all be saved at once. It always appears at the bottom of the page. "Record" is used for a single setting, i.e. on a submission's Summary page to change its Track, or in this case, to save the state of the radio control that chooses which mode will be used to create the Organizing Team.

Hi asmecher,
In the case of setting up the list of "Organizing Team", does the "Record" button mean that after selecting an option, the team list will be automically updated according to that option?
For the summary page of submission, a "Record" also implies that after selecting the track, the statistic will automically continue. "Save" usually means updating the information once, but no automical following update. Is this understanding true?
Thank you!

Hi Siu,

When the automatically-generated option is chosen for Organizing Team, and that setting is Recorded, the Titles etc. listed below are not used; changing the setting and pressing Record will not change the Titles listed.

You may be thinking of the word "Record" in the wrong sense; in this case, it doesn't mean "record" in the sense of keeping a history of past changes. It simply means that the single changed setting that the button sits next to will be saved.

Hi asmecher:

Thank you for your explaination, I think I get the idea of "Record" in this spot now. But just curious, why not just use "save"? Maybe this is not an important problem...
