Forum rules
What to do if you have a technical problem with OCS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved. Please note that this FAQ is OJS-centric, but most issues are applicable to both platforms.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OCS Conference Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OCS Development subforum.

Breadcrumbs home link on PHP 5

Postby shannah » Tue May 29, 2007 10:09 am

I have just installed OCS at http://www.imaginativeeducation.org/con ... /index.php

Vast improvement over the previous versions... looks like a complete rewrite.

One issue we are having is that the "home" link in the breadcrumbs doesn't go back to Home, but rather goes to the current conference page. I think this is likely a bug rather than a design decision since "home" goes to the exact same url that the 2nd piece of the breadcrumbs goes to.

For an example see:
http://www.imaginativeeducation.org/con ... ralia2008/

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Steve,

Glad to hear the new release is working for you. It represents a lot of work and we're looking forward to seeing it used around the world.

Just to clarify, what page do you expect that link to go to? I suspect you mean http://www.imaginativeeducation.org/conferences/index.php. If so, edit templates/common/header.tpl and find line 97:
Code: Select all
<a href="{url page="index"}">{translate key="navigation.home"}</a> &gt;
Change it to...
Code: Select all
<a href="{url conference="index" schedConf="index" page="index"}">{translate key="navigation.home"}</a> &gt;
If you confirm that this is what you had in mind, we'll commit it to our CVS repository for the next release. You may also want to make a similar change to the "Home" link on the top navigation bar, also coded in the same template file.

Thanks for the reply. Yes. This is what I meant. I pasted the code into the header.tpl file as suggested and it appears to do the job.

One minor glitch seems to be that it keeps appending 'index' to the end of the url.. So if one keeps clicking "home" they will end up with a really long URL (with a whole bunch of index/index/index/index ... at the end of it).

Thanks for all your help... Once again.. this is a pleasant surprise after having used OCS 1 for many years. I was ready to write my own conference system - but version 2 seems to be written in a much more stable and extendable way, so I think we'll be sticking with OCS.

Best regards

Steve

Hi Steve,

Those extra "index" parts at the end of the URL aren't a bug -- unless I've misunderstood your post, it'll stop at three. They represent the conference, scheduled conference, and page that's being viewed; when not specified in the URL, OJS assumes that "index" is the default. In some places it's specified explicitly, and in some it's implied. OJS will behave the same way in either case.
