rss media feeds

Postby mmccallum » Sat Feb 24, 2007 8:13 am

Quick quesiton about these. I am not ready to actually do this, but I am interested in understanding the concept! I am just learning this stuff.

Can I set up my journal using RSS media feeds the same way you see MSN and AOL doing this.
For example, can I set it up so that opening journal page automatically posts recent news headlines about amphibians and reptiles? Also, maybe pick up on links to other journals having peer-reviewed articles of interest?

Or, is this for sending out media feeds to be picked up by others (like MSN and AOL).

Hi Malcolm,

The RSS web feeds plugin is used to create RSS feeds from articles that have been published in your journal -- so, in answer to your questions, it is "for sending out media feeds to be picked up by others".

We do have a CMS (content management) plugin in the current CVS version of OJS which will allow you to do the former; that is, you can point to RSS feeds on other sites about whatever topics you like, and have them aggregated to a page on your journal. We are hoping to release this plugin with the next version of OJS.
