Make the look and feel of OJS, OCS, and the forums the same. This will allow users to incorperate all in a single setting. The products are good, but the time necessary to make a single look and feel seems unnecessary since they all are coming from the same source. Keep up the good work.

Same Look 'n Feel

Postby John » Sun Nov 21, 2004 8:14 am

Excellent idea, especially as we see our systems as part of an open source suite of solutions to open access publishing needs. The only thing is that we are so small a team of students that we move from project to project, with improvements to the design of each project than ensure none of them look the same. However, the disparities should be reduced as the design improves and we arrive at some common standards. Still, a good reminder of what the ideal should be.

Visual Identitity System

Postby ramon » Tue Nov 23, 2004 8:57 am

John,

Ideally your systems should have an identity, not really look the same. Also, I think the system should use more CSS, to make it easier to change the system's layout. Version 1.1.8 still uses a lot of hardcoded color settings, a few fonts, as well as too many tables (they do not display correctly in different languages).

Another suggestion I wanted to make was regarding the Review/Editing area. I believe that the interface should display only the task necessary to be completed, or show the user that it has completed the tasks above, so that there is a visual feedback for the user. This could be accomplished setting a $_SESSION variable for each table, or changing the CSS of the table to a class or id completed.

We have been providing many trainings for editors in Brasil, and they have become confused sometimes, because the system always goes to the Review of the submission, even when it is in the Editing process.

thanks, and hope that vrs. 2.0 is coming soon!!

Ramon
First off, we have implemented in 2.0 the distinction between submissions in the Review stage and those in the Edit stage. That is a good idea. We are also reducing the hard-coding of the style features. Most of the functionality of 2.0 is now in place, and we hope to begin testing in December.
