What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

Postby obeiki » Fri Aug 11, 2006 5:31 am

Hello
I have tried to install OJS-2.1.1 once on my host, but I had some mistake and it was unsuccessful. I have decided to delete all information and install it again. I did it, but after unzipping OJS on my host and typing my domain name in brwser address I recieve this message: "DB Error: Access denied for user 'ojs'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
OJS: DB Error: Access denied for user 'ojs'@'localhost' (using password: YES)". Can any one help me?

Hi Obeiki,

Sounds like you need to configure your database settings. If you've already installed OJS (i.e. filled out the installation form etc.), you just need to modify config.inc.php to suit your server; if you haven't filled out the installation form yet, edit config.inc.php, turn Installed to Off, and try browsing to your site again, following the instructions on the screen.

Hi Obeiki,

I suspect that your server platform changed between installs, or something similar; your current host runs PHP as a CGI and needs to use the disable_path_info option in OJS's configuration before installation can complete. Note that you're running PHP 4.x in IIS, which is not technically a supported platform for OJS but may work. (See docs/README for platform requirements.)

same problem

Postby ceuna » Wed Feb 14, 2007 6:44 pm

Hello! I'm new at this site. I'm in the board of a traditional Dutch journal and we've plans to transform it into an Open Acces Journal.

I want to test OJS at my personal site. However, I've the same database problem as my collegue above. This are the details of my webhost:

Platform: Linux 2.6, Apache 2.0, MySQL 4.1, PHP 4.3, Perl 5.8.

It shoud work, should it not?

I've changed in the config file the details of the database "kasper" I use. But I get this:
DB Error: Table 'kasper.journals' doesn't exist

Can anyone help me?
:?

Hi ceuna,

Is "installed" set to "Off" in your config.inc.php file?

Hi Alec,

Yes, it is:

[general]

; Set this to On once the system has been installed
; (This is generally done automatically by the installer)
installed = Off

Regards, Archie

PS: In my opinion OJS is a very beautiful system!

Hi Archie,

It's possible that a plugin is trying to connect to the database when it shouldn't. Could you turn on show_stacktrace in config.inc.php and post the result? (Send it to me personally if there's anything you consider compromising in it.)

Hi Alec,

This is the edited code in de config file:

; Display a stack trace when a fatal error occurs.
; Note that this may expose private information and should be disabled
; for any production system.
show_stacktrace = On

I send you the results by a private message

Hi Archie,

It looks to me like your server isn't handling the PATH_INFO directive properly. Try turning disable_path_info to "On" in your config.inc.php file to enable a work-around in OJS.

It works now, I didn't install OJS in the root map.
