What to do if you have a technical problem with OJS:

1. Search the forum. You can do this from the Advanced Search Page or from our Google Custom Search, which will search the entire PKP site. If you are encountering an error, we especially recommend searching the forum for said error.

2. Check the FAQ to see if your question or error has already been resolved.

3. Post a question, but please, only after trying the above two solutions. If it's a workflow or usability question you should probably post to the OJS Editorial Support and Discussion subforum; if you have a development question, try the OJS Development subforum.

DOAJ import fails

Postby gemusehandler » Sun Jun 29, 2014 9:45 am

Somewhere in the last two months I have lost the ability to submit to the DOAJ. When I upload the XML file to the DOAJ website I get a message that "processing failed". The note reads: "File could not be validated against a known schema". My last successful upload was March 30th 2014. My first failed attempt is from June 7th 2014. The original file from March 30th is rejected as well. Is DOAJ using a new schema?

Check if actual ISSNs (or maybe other identification elements) of the journal are included in DOAJ. In my case the journal aquired e-ISSN, which was not posted to DOAJ (but was included in the OJS), so the exported xml file contained ISSN not recognized by DOAJ and couldn't be processed.

Hi Peter, in fact I did receive a second (E)-ISSN. To test your comment I removed it but the result is the same. I found back the file that I used in April and that one is refused as well. What I am worried about are the differences between the syntax of the doajArticles.xsd file that DOAJ shows as an example and the syntax that OJS is producing. These are the headers of the two files:

DOAJ:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<xs:schema
xmlns:xs ="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
xmlns:iso_639-2b="http://www.doaj.org/schemas/iso_639-2b/1.0">

<xs:import namespace="http://www.doaj.org/schemas/iso_639-2b/1.0"
schemaLocation="http://www.doaj.org/static/doaj/iso_639-2b.xsd">

OJS:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<records xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="http://doaj.org/static/doaj/doajArticles.xsd">

Hi gemusehandler,

Are you using an up-to-date version of OJS? A recent bug report updated OJS' included DOAJ schema; I believe this was included in OJS 2.4.4. If you have any further questions, please let us know!

James

Hey James, I am running 2.4.4.1
This is not the problem here.
Is there a way to help me out?

Make sure you share the up to date data about the journal with DOAJ. I would check this out.

Hi gemusehandler,

Any chance you could send me a copy of the XML file to check? If you could, please send to jmacgreg at gmail.com.

Cheers,
James

Hi gemusehandler,

It looks like a number of your articles didn't generate proper publication dates, which is a reported bug, and possibly due to using OJS' Quick Submit plugin. Could you try applying the patch that has been uploaded to that bug report, regenerating the XML, and re-submitting to DOAJ? If you could let me know whether that solves the issue I would greatly appreciate it.

Cheers,
James
