Wrong review reminder in 2.4.2

Postby nef » Wed Nov 06, 2013 3:33 am

Hi
Altough our reviewers have ended their review selecting "Revisions Required" they still receive a reminder asking them send the review. We haven't had that problem before updating to 2.4.2.
Best regards

Hi Niels Erik,

Are you sure this wasn't a case of delayed delivery? Could you check the values of date_reminded and date_completed for that entry in the review_assignments table?

Hi Alec
I'm not sure where to find that table. Do I login as an editor, select the article and choose the History link?
Best regards

Hi Niels Erik,

You'd need to check it directly in the database, e.g. using a tool like phpMyAdmin or the mysql command-line client.

Hi Alec,

Niels Erik has asked me to help him with getting you the information you've asked for.

We've had complaints about two submissions. One where the reviewer declined and one where the review was already completed as Niels Erik explained.

Here's where the reviewer declined (review_id = 2099 judged by the date):
Code: Select all
ojs=# select review_id,submission_id,declined,date_assigned,date_reminded,date_completed from review_assignments where submission_id = '8962';
 review_id | submission_id | declined |    date_assigned    | date_reminded |   date_completed
-----------+---------------+----------+---------------------+---------------+---------------------
      2131 |          8962 |        0 | 2013-11-20 14:00:52 |               | 2014-01-07 14:36:00

Here's the review that was already completed (review_id = 2074 judged by the date):

Hi tgc99,

Hmm, neither of those have the date_reminded field flagged. Is it possible that the reminders were sent manually by accident?

Our journals are sending wrong review reminders too.

First I thought it was people notifying their review the same day than the reminder was sent. So that a delay in the email sending could make it arrive after the notification.

However I have found several cases when the reminder is sent even days after the reviewer sent the review.

The tables seem complete, but I've found they share a NULL value in
Code: Select all
date_acknowledged
field. The table looks like for the wrond reminders sent:
Code: Select all
submission_id   date_assigned   date_notified   date_confirmed   date_completed   date_acknowledged   date_due   reminder_automatic   declined   date_reminded   date_responde_due
5322   08/04/2014 12:01   08/04/2014 12:03   08/04/2014 17:43   28/04/2014 16:50   NULL   29/04/2014 0:00   0   0   NULL   NULL
5960   09/04/2014 5:58   09/04/2014 5:58   10/04/2014 23:43   01/05/2014 20:27   NULL   30/04/2014 0:00   1   0   01/05/2014 0:00   NULL
5865   09/04/2014 19:23   09/04/2014 19:26   11/04/2014 9:06   29/04/2014 20:20   NULL   30/04/2014 0:00   0   0   NULL   NULL
5717   11/04/2014 10:55   11/04/2014 10:59   11/04/2014 13:41   30/04/2014 16:57   NULL   02/05/2014 0:00   0   0   NULL   NUL

I think the dates show they shouldn't have received a reminder. Where in the database can I look for additional information?

Thanks.

OK, i see it could be fixed in new 2_4_4. I'll try it soon.

Because of some problems with the 2.4.2 we'll wait till the next edition before updating our OJS server, but we have a lot of negative feedbacks concerning the review reminders. Don't you have a patch so it will be possible for us to fix it without updating?

Hi all,

There is a known bug filed for review reminders being sent on submissions that are no longer in review (bug #8584) -- but the element of the behavior you're describing that I'm finding confusing is that in your case the "date reminded" is not getting flagged.

There are several email templates associated with this; can you confirm which was sent? Specifically, there are REVIEW_REMIND_ONECLICK, REVIEW_REMIND, REVIEW_REMIND_AUTO_ONECLICK, and REVIEW_REMIND_AUTO. The first two are sent manually by the journal editor as part of the workflow; the second two are sent by the automated reminders.

In both cases the date_reminded column of the review_assignments table should be flagged. It's possible that there's a bug here but I haven't spotted it yet. (Are there any relevant modifications to the code?)
